The Problem

“Prison commissaries…present yet another opportunity for prisons to shift the costs of incarceration to incarcerated people and their families...forcing incarcerated people—and by extension, their families—to pay for basic necessities.”  S. Rather (2018)

Our

Solution

The Commissary Fund (TCF) seeks to alleviate the burden of commissary from incarcerated individuals and their loved ones. We raise and pool donations to provide commissary funds to incarcerated individuals in New York State.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

The Commissary Fund funnels donations to commissary accounts. Please consider making a donation to an incarcerated person's commissary.

Get to know The Commissary Fund team!

Influenced by the work Bryan Stevenson, the stories of the Ear Hustle podcast, and the experiences of family and friends impacted by mass incarceration, The Commissary Fund launched in 2020 by a volunteer board with ties to Rochester, NY and an interest in impacting the criminal justice system. Our team is a diverse group of volunteers who share a passion for alleviating the commissary challenges incarcerated people and their families face.
